We are not talking about Carl Sagan. We are talking about the premier of Showtime’s Billions. I have been hearing about the show on Brian Koppelman’s podcast especially his episode with Paul Giammati. In addition I saw some chatter this weekend on Twitter as well.

The new series stars Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis as a US Attorney and hedge fund manager engaging in a cat-and-mouse game. The show is co-created by Andrew Ross Sorkin, David Levien and Brian Koppelman. The show is getting some good reviews. Maureen Ryan at Variety writes:

“Billions” is shamelessly entertaining. Don’t come to it looking for an in-depth commentary on the stratification of American society or the pitfalls of late-stage capitalism. This is a generally well-crafted soap opera about rich people, one that crackles with energy and insider knowledge of its well-heeled territory and the narcissistic insiders who live there.

I am going to tune in. The premiere episode is embedded below. You can also go directly to Showtime (or the Showtime app) and watch it there as well.

Update: Here is another review of Billions from Bloomberg.
