“Next month, the Dwight D. Opperman Foundation will present the Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Leadership Award to four men and Martha Stewart. Among the winners are two convicted felons, the founder of right-wing Fox News, and Elon Musk.”

This is by Emma Bowman writing at NPR. While alive, RBG assented to the use of her name for this award. Now only a few years later the reality of the award has changed altogether. Her family is asking that her name be removed.*

This is another example of how even the best of intentions can get co-opted or corrupted after you are gone. Circumstances do change over time, it is still to easy to warp a donor’s original intention into something altogether different.

So if you are of charitable means it makes sense to do your giving with a warm hand, while you can both enjoy it and ensure your intentions are fulfilled.

*An update: the awards are on pause.
