The Best of Jonathan Clements: Timeless Advice for a Financial Life Well Lived a compendium of some of Jonathan Clements’ best writing, and with a introduction by Jason Zweig, is now available. It is a fitting tribute to Clements work and you will likely find something worthwhile therein.
Even better, the proceeds of the book are going to fund a program, a Roth IRA project, the Jonathan Clements Getting Going on Savings Initiative. You can read all about it in this post by Jason Zweig in the Wall Street Journal. Suffice it to say, it is a well-designed educational program that can both give young people a leg up and provide data to further inform educational efforts. Zweig writes:
Most exciting of all, both to Jonathan and me, is that the researchers running the program hope to learn how to motivate inexperienced investors to stay the course and to add more money as they gain experience.
Readers are likely already well-acquainted with my appreciation of Clements and his work. I wrote about him back in September of last year. There are no shortage of ideas on how to increase the savings rate of Americans, especially young people. But they often involve the government in some for or fashion.
This program has no such hurdles and is ready to go today. I have contributed to this effort, and if you see fit, I hope you may do so as well. I’ll leave you with Clement’s own words*:
For a large part of the population, there’s nobody helping them get started as investors. With any luck this project can change that for them.
Fingers crossed.
*Clements now has a post up discussing the initiative as well.
